Update: Letter from school staff

Dear families,

The school staff are reaching out to you to explain, clearly and honestly, why we are striking on February 11 and why it is important to have your support.

We are striking because we care deeply about our work and because we want the best for your children. Every day we strive to ensure that they feel cared for, listened to, and able to learn in a safe, high‑quality environment. However, for some time now, we have lacked the resources and support needed to do this job properly.

In Pre‑school and Primary classrooms, this becomes evident when:

  • there are too many children per classroom,
  • there are not enough support teachers to attend to diversity,
  • there are insufficient resources to better support children with greater needs,
  • and the time we should dedicate to educating and supporting children is reduced by excessive workload and administrative tasks.

All this does not only affect teachers; it especially affects the children. We are advocating for the possibility of dedicating more time, more attention, and more care to them, which is what they deserve.

We are aware that a strike can cause difficulties for families, and we understand this. At the same time, we know that when schools and families walk together, real change is possible. Your support helps make visible that this struggle is for a better, fairer public school with more resources for all children.

We are striking to better care for your children, today and tomorrow.

Thank you for your understanding, trust, and support.

📋 Information about minimum services

We inform you that the minimum services corresponding to the strike called for tomorrow, February 11, 2026, have been published.

These services are established in Order EMT/__/2026 of the Department of Business and Labor of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and guarantee that in educational centers there will be:

  • One member of the management team per center.
  • One teacher for every three classrooms.
  • 50% of the lunchroom monitoring staff, kitchen service, reception, extracurricular activities, and special educational needs support service, to guarantee educational and sociocultural leisure activities.

Situation at our school

In the case of our school, all homeroom classes and specialties will be affected by the strike.

Likewise, the school will not have SIEI support during the strike day, which directly affects care for students with special educational needs.

According to these minimum services, a single teacher will have to attend to very large groups, which can range from 60 to 75 students, a ratio much higher than usual and far from optimal conditions to guarantee adequate, safe, and quality educational care.

For this reason, we ask you to consider your children's attendance at school, taking into account the organizational limitations derived from the application of minimum services and the impact this situation may have on the normal functioning of the school day.

We remain at your disposal for any clarification.

Sincerely,

Bernat Desclot School
